🕒 Tips for Visitors

Before You Go

  • Book festival tickets online: as soon as possible – offline weekend sales may sell out and lines can be long
  • Reserve early: Lodging in Boryeong fills up fast during the festival (especially weekends). Reserve hotels or pensions as least 1-2 months in advance.
  • Bring a waterproof pouch: Essential for protecting your phone, cash, and ID. Many stalls sell them on-site too.
  • Wear old clothes and flip-flops: Everything will get completely muddy. Choose items you don’t mind throwing away.

✅ What to Pack

  • Towel, change of clothes, and plastic bag for muddy gear.
  • Sunscreen – the beach sun is strong even when covered in mud.
  • Waterproof camera if you want muddy action shots.

During the Festival

  • Arrive early to beat crowds and make the most of your ticket (usually valid for one day)
  • Use lockers: Available at the venue for storing valuables or fresh clothes.
  • Hydrate often: It’s hot and active – water stations are available throughout the site
  • Shower zones are available after mud activities (usually paid, so bring some cash)
  • Respect non-mud zones like food stalls, shops, and beauty product booths.

Things to Avoid

  • Don’t wear contact lenses in the mud – it’s not clean and could cause eye infections.
  • Don’t bring expensive or irreplaceable items – things can get lost or broken in the chaos.
  • Avoid mud areas if you have open cuts or sensitive skin; the mud is natural but may cause irritation for some.

Extra Pro Tips

  • Weekdays are less crowded than weekends.
  • Combine with sightseeing: Visit Muchangpo Beach, Gaehwa Art Park, or the Boryeong Coal Museum nearby.
  • Festival tickets often include access to all mud zones but not concerts – check in advance if you want concert seats or VIP options.
  • Some areas (like the Family Zone) have restricted entry, so check signage or ask a staff member if you’re unsure.
